Tuition fee route

Graduates applying for initial teacher training (ITT) during the final year of their degree or soon after usually secure places on the tuition fee route. They take out a student loan to pay tuition fees to Exceed SCITT (£9250) and apply for a maintenance loan. Further details available here.  Tuition fee places are available on all our programmes.

Teaching Apprenticeships

You will be paid a salary by your employing school. You must have the support of the school in order to apply. For more details about an application see here.

Salaried trainees and Teaching Apprentices will be employed as an unqualified teacher and paid at least point one on the unqualified teacher pay scale during the training year.

Salaried route

This route is only available to career changers, i.e. those who have substantive employment history. It is not suitable for recent graduates who may have some work history gathered during their time in study. The school where you undertake the majority of your training pays your tuition fees and, as your employer, pays your salary.

Salaried places are only available through Exceed Teaching School Hub, Priestley Partnership and The Josie Thirkell Institute of Education and numbers are limited. Schools are looking for strong candidates who can evidence that they have transferable skills from their employment history that will enable them to work successfully in a school environment.

The QTS programme will be paid for by the employing school, as well as a salary on the unqualified teacher rate of pay. If you wish to undertake an internationally recognised qualification of a PGCE, then you will need to self fund. The total cost of the PGCE is £1,300. This is the only cost that you will need to budget for on the Salaried programme.
